Ukraine Begins Mass Production of Novel Defensive Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Ukrainian authorities have declared the commencement of mass production for a new locally engineered interceptor drone to reinforce its air defences. The first three producers have begun manufacturing, with an additional eleven getting ready to set up production lines, the defence ministry announced this past Friday.
'Octopus' Technology Proven in Battlefield Situations
These UAVs will be based on a domestically developed technology called “Octopus” designed to neutralize Iranian-made drones. The system underwent testing in combat and proved successful “during nighttime, under jamming and at low altitudes,” the ministry confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 interceptors each day.
Latest Attack on the Capital Described as Calculated
Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “deliberate, premeditated and wicked” following six people were killed and many others wounded in a series of nocturnal attacks across Kyiv. Air raid sirens activated in the capital just after midnight this past Friday, with enemy UAVs soon detected overhead and heavy machine-gun fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.
Zelenskyy stated the country was hit by 430 drones and 18 missiles. Those killed were at home in a block of flats on Kyiv’s left bank when it was hit. Dozens of additional structures were damaged, including the Azerbaijani embassy.
Diplomatic Protest After Diplomatic Compound Destruction
Azerbaijan said it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador on Friday following the destruction at its diplomatic compound. The blast from a Moscow's missile demolished part of the embassy’s perimeter wall and caused serious damage to the diplomatic compound, officials from Baku reported. There were no personnel injured, and an official representative said the Kyiv embassy was maintaining operations.
Russian Glide Bomb Manufacturing Experiences Significant Increase
Moscow plans to produce as many as 120,000 glide bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official disclosed, including 500 of a new, longer-range version that can reach additional urban centers. Russian forces were firing hundreds of glide bombs per day, with the previous month's daily average being approximately 170, according to official military statistics.
Kyiv's Attacks Focus on Moscow's Energy Infrastructure
Moscow's Black Sea port of the port city temporarily suspended oil exports on Friday – equivalent to 2% of worldwide oil production – following a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff said its forces had launched Neptune cruise missiles and deployed multiple kinds of strike drones in the attack on Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to reduce the strategic capabilities of the Russian aggressor.”
Ukraine separately struck an oil refinery in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in nearby Engels during the night.
International Sanctions Impact Moscow's Oil Producer
Russia’s second-largest energy company Lukoil announced this past Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers concerning its international holdings after recent sanctions from the UK and the US and failure of a deal with commodity trader Gunvor. “The specific deal are to be disclosed once conclusive negotiations have been reached and required authorizations are secured,” the company stated.
Zelenskyy Plans Diplomatic Trip to Spanish Capital
The Ukrainian leader is scheduled to travel to the Spanish capital, Madrid, on Tuesday to confer with lawmakers following his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials disclosed. The Ukrainian president would meet deputies from all houses of parliament throughout his stay, an official announcement confirmed.
