The Showrunner Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
