The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
