Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
