Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
