Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
